Call for Papers

The Montana State University Department of Agricultural Economics & Economics and the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) invite abstract submissions for presentations at the inaugural Big Sky Workshop on the Economics of Agriculture and the Environment.

We welcome all types of economic research studying the relationship between agriculture and the environment and natural resources such land, water, and wildlife. Papers that are primarily focused on environmental and resource economics or on agricultural economics separately may be considered to the extent they provide some insight into the intersection of the two topics. The workshop selection committee—Nicole Karwowski, Nick Hagerty, Sara Sutherland, and Eric Edwards—will select papers based on their fit to the workshop theme and an assessment of their academic contribution and potential interest to the workshop audience.

We intend for the workshop to provide junior and senior researchers the opportunity to receive constructive feedback, meet new colleagues and coauthors, and strengthen existing collaborations. There is no registration fee and the hosts will cover meals: a reception and dinner the evening of June 18th at PERC, breakfast and lunch at MSU on June 19th and 20th, and a reception and dinner in downtown Bozeman on June 19th. Workshop participants will generally be responsible for their own travel and accommodations. We will provide accommodations and a travel stipend for five graduate student presenters.

A short application form and 1,000 word abstract (or full paper) can be submitted for consideration. Applications are due February 7th, with notifications expected mid-February. Registration will open after acceptance notifications have been sent out. We expect only a limited number of slots available for non-presenters, so please submit an abstract if you want to attend!
